The Ukrainian weekly Zerkalo Nedeli has published footage of launches of the Flamingo cruise missile, which is described as Ukraine's own FirePoint development.
Earlier, photos of this missile were published by the Associated Press agency. Today, the Ukrainian military showed training and combat launches of the Flamingo.
It is alleged that some of the launches were carried out against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation, but there have been no recent reports of cruise missile strikes in Russia.
The range of the Flamingo is claimed to be 3,000 kilometers and the weight of the warhead is more than a ton. It is equipped with protection against electronic warfare and is launched from platforms similar to those used to launch Soviet Tu-141 Strizh and Tu-143 Reis UAVs.
Journalists write that successful tests of the missile took place several months ago, and now it has gone into mass production. Back in December, Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine was testing its own promising missile with the working name "Ruta", but its characteristics were not known. In May, Kiev and Berlin agreed that Germany would finance the production of long-range weapons in Ukraine.
Both Ukrainian and Russian military bloggers note the similarity of the Flamingo to the FP-5 missile of the Emirati-British company Milanion. The FP-5 was unveiled earlier this year at an exhibition in the UAE and has the same tactical and technical characteristics as the Ukrainian missile shown.
"The missile is British, and it was shown not just for fun, but before the actual use, which is bound to happen. And we should prepare for it. The claimed range of 3,000 kilometers may be a PR stunt, but even a range of 1,000-2,000 kilometers poses a threat to our facilities in the deepest rear as far as Yekaterinburg," writes Z-blogger Archangel of the Special Forces."
Rybar channel close to the Russian Armed Forces General Staff warns the Russian military against "smirking" about the new missile. "FP-5 are cheaper variants that can be mass-produced. At the same time, they will be launched from ground-based installations," he notes.
