SBU detains FSB agents preparing double terrorist attack near regional shopping center in Mykolaiv
SBU CI prevented new terrorist attacks in the south of Ukraine. The SBU special operation resulted in the detention of two FSB agents who were preparing a double explosion in Mykolaiv.
The investigation established that the enemy's plan was to first detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) near the administrative building of the regional shopping center. Later, when emergency services arrived at the scene, another explosive planted nearby was to detonate.
In this way, the racists planned to kill as many people as possible, hoping to undermine the internal situation in the frontline region.
According to the case file, the terrorist attack was prepared by two FSB agents who acted separately from each other but had a common supervisor.
One of the defendants was a 38-year-old resident of Kirovohrad region, who came to the attention of the occupiers when he posted anti-Ukrainian comments on social media.
After being recruited, his task was to equip the IEDs and put them in caches.
Then the Russian curator passed the geolocation of the caches to the direct executor of the planned terrorist attack. It turned out to be an 18-year-old resident of Kyiv region, who got "hooked" by the FSB while looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels.
Under the instruction of the curator, the young man took two IEDs from caches in Kherson and Mykolaiv. He hid one of them in a garbage can near the Mykolaiv shopping center, and planted the other one nearby.
At that moment, SBU officers detained him red-handed and thus foiled the enemy's plans.
At the scene, the SBU seized the agent's phone, which he tried to install near the shopping center to broadcast the terrorist attack to the occupiers online.
The SBU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 2 of Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempted terrorist act).
The other agent was detained at his place of residence. His actions are classified under Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law).
The offenders are in custody without the right to be released on bail. They face from 12 years in prison to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was conducted by SBU officers in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions under the procedural supervision of the Kherson Specialized Prosecutor's Office and the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Southern Region Defense Department.
