At least 16 more cases of deprivation of citizenship for evasion of military registration were publicly reported in 2025: one case each in Belgorod, Omsk, Armavir and Tula, two cases each in Volgograd, Smolensk, Kursk regions and Udmurtia, and four cases in Saratov region.
Most often passports were taken away for unwillingness to serve in Moscow - the capital accounted for 71 cases in 2024. This is probably due to the frequency and scale of law enforcement raids against migrants in the city.
Often after deprivation of citizenship a person is banned from entering Russia for a period of 5 to 25 years, but the courts also often side with the deprived person if he or she still has family in Russia, say lawyers Arseniy Levinson and Kseniya Borshcheva.
🔵 Old law. On August 8, 2024, Putin signed amendments to the Federal Law "On Citizenship." It allows citizenship to be revoked formally for violating the oath in which a new citizen swears to uphold the Constitution. According to the law "On Military Duty," men must report to the military enlistment center within two weeks after obtaining citizenship or within a week apply there through the State Services.
